INDIAN METAL DEATH? SURE, WHY NOT?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010 at 9:15am by

Reader Sawan Raykar sent us the below video for the song “The Unrelenting Surge of Vengeance” by the band Demonic Resurrection, a melodic death metal band from India. It’s not the greatest thing I’ve ever heard but it’s pretty good, and I honestly can’t think of another Indian metal band (and I mean a band FROM India, not with an Indian American member). And that makes them interesting in and of itself, because, holy shit, India might be one of the last major countries that don’t seem to have gotten a chance to make their contribution to the metal world.

Anyone else know any other good Indian metal bands? Is there a whole thriving scene we don’t know about? Seriously. I’m curious.

        Hi.

  • RockOutWithMy…YouKnow

Nothing to say about the post, since I don’t have speakers for my computer, but I would like to say how I’m a big fan of your resolution to get your asses out of bed and post earlier than 10:30.
Thanks for contributing to me not doing work and eventually getting fired.

  • SMisra

Rudra, who are/were a Singapore-based band with all Indian members. They are kind of a death/doomy hybrid with self-consciously Indian-themed lyrics (Vedic metal!). Really not too shabby.

BTW, Indians absolutely love classic metal – Maiden, etc. are huge there . OTOH, they also love Bryan Adams, so YMMV

    • gATO

yep, Rudra is pretty good, definitively worthy of checking out

  • IamracistbutiloveOceano

They had good metal over there but we took it from them and left them with a bunch of bullshit.

Pakarama are thoroughly influenced by classic metal. Not my cup of tea but another example of Indian metal, at least.

Watch ‘Global Metal,’ by the same guys that did ‘A Headbanger’s Journey’ and ‘Maiden: Flight 666′

  • Raggogon

not Indian, not death metal but they are Hindu black metal — and what a quality video for a start up band!

Yeah, “Global Metal” had a few, but I forgot them.

  • R. Joseph Smith

    Hey Axl, how’s it going.

“…India might be one of the last major countries that don’t seem to have gotten a chance to make their contribution to the metal world.”

Give me a job as an editor and I’ll let you pay me.

    This is… not bad actually.

A few years back in SPIN magazine there was an article about heavy metal bands and musicians in India. It seems the scene is there. Most of the impediments, like in most parts of the world, are of a cultural effect. Not exactly sure what the publication date of that article was, I’m sure if you look for it, you will find it.

    All the best.

I blogged about this a few months back, check it out:

I think you would like Kryptos
apparently there is a good Indian single malt heading to the states soon. I know, totally unrelated.

  • Verator

Sounds like some has been listening to Old’s Mans Child/ Dimmu Burger.

The Indian/South Asian Scene is bigger than most may imagine.. I have family membs over there, who gave me a brief tour in the scene over there.. i literally got mindfucked..
there are many bands that are underground wont go near mainstrea,,
Allso the culture and religion of south asia makes it hard to promote them nuff to go ani were near mainstream…
So its preaty hard to get into their scene unless ur in it..

  • Deathexplosion

these guys were in Global Metal for a few seconds…the Indian dude with the Dimmu t-shirt being interviewed was from this band i believe.

“India might be one of the last major countries that don’t seem to have gotten a chance to make their contribution to the metal world.”

Does China have any metal bands? You’d think with such a huge amount of people, they’d have more. But according to the Archives, there are only 124, which is practically nothing. The Archives also says that India has 77 bands.

  • http://reaper-x.deviantart.com/ Reaper-X

lol, you guys are late as shit.

Fuckin’ Sam Dunn covered this band in his last documentary.

Demonstealer is a pretty awesome dude though. Very friendly.

  • Dimebag6sic6

Pin Drop Violence. They’re really pretty tight http://www.myspace.com/gutterment

  • Utmu

I listened to these guys on one of Liquid Metal’s Bloody Root, it was of Indian metal. As it turns out, there is a HUGE Indian metal scene, thing is, most metalheads in America haven’t heard of many of them. I can’t watch this vid atm, but this band was pretty good, but somewhat generic. I can remember another Indian metal band off the top of my head, which is Bhayanak Maut.

  • Isaac

Reptilian Death is all I can come up with. I think they share a member or two with Demonic Resurrection, too. The difference is they’re tech death instead of melodeath.

Infernal Wrath is a band I would recommend to anyone exploring Indian Metal. A friend gave me their CD a month ago and they’re pretty awesome. Decent double bass and quite catchy riffs. Also quite a few ambient tracks on the list.

Ooh, good to see Indians weighing in with their favourites (and their own bands) here! Inner Sanctum is another band that’s been getting some love – myspace.com/innersanctumindia . Give ‘em a listen. And props to Demonstealer for all his fantastic work in promoting music and metal in India!

  • Anshul

wow didn’t know so many Indians checked out Metalsucks . Anyways Inner Sanctum were good but slightly give away the core vibe , i have their Provenance EP . Saw them live as well when they opended for Amon Amarth in Bangalore . Anyways hardcore fans also check out this band Please Disrupt from Mangalore . Their ep Verge of Death kicks ass and more .

@Abhimanyu – thanks for the kind words man :)

  • Tracy

I started checking out Indian bands a couple of months ago and so far the ones I’ve taken a fancy to are Kryptos, Inner Sanctum (i have their sweatshirt :D), Infernal Wrath, Demonic Resurrection, Bhayanak Maut and Sceptre. Kryptos would have to be my favorite out off them all ’cause melo-death is my favorite genre and they’re pretty decent with the structure and melody and everything. \m/
