DREAMS OF MAIDEN COME TRUE: IRON MAIDEN + DREAM THEATER TOUR CONFIRMED

Thursday, March 4th, 2010 at 4:23pm by

Press releases from both the Iron Maiden and Dream Theater camps have just confirmed that the rumor we published earlier today is true; Iron Maiden and Dream Theater will tour together! No word yet from the Coheed & Cambria folks. The tour will play 22 North American dates.

For Maiden, it’s their most extensive North American tour in a few years, as their last run was the worldwide Capt. Bruce Dickinson affair that resulted in the Flight 666 documentary. The band promises the setlist will be of the “greatest hits” variety and will also offer a taste of their new album, which the press release announces will be called The Final Frontier.

For Dream Theater it’s a chance to play in front of ginormous crowds that are very likely to appreciate their music and to reconnect with old fans who may have lost track of the band over the years. It’ll also be a rare instance of Dream Theater playing a support role; I remember DT opened for Megadeth on Gigantour a few years back but I can’t recall any other support tours they’ve done since. A DT support slot is kind of like a BTBAM support slot… like 2 songs? Regardless, it’s a great opportunity.

Any Maiden tour is automatically awesome because IRON FUCKING MAIDEN, but having Dream Theater on too is just an added bonus.

Full list of dates after the jump. Madison Fucking Square Garden!

Yessss!!! DTE instead of The Palace for Detroit!

    • http://www.last.fm/user/opeth027/ Kyle

Hell yeah!! And on a Saturday!!!! \mm/

  • Alex_P

Isn’t this supposed to be their farewell tour? Anyways, I really really really hope I’ll get in. VANCOUVER HERE I COME!

  • drunkwithpower

Dammnit, I can’t get to to Tinley Park

  • http://www.twistedcritic.wordpress.com Chris

Is Dream Theater only supporting, or is this a double bill? I caught DT opening for Yes a few years back. Pretty sure they did most of the tour with them. It was weird seeing them do something like 4 or 5 songs.

  • Hot Donut

I think “Madison Square Fucking Garden” has a better ring to it.

Regardless, this is great fucking news.

  • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

Called it :) well more or less anyways, but DT and Maiden is enough 4 me \m/(-_-)\m/

    • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

oh an apparently the Coheed thing was just for a new song premiering tonight. pure coincidence there, but hey, im happy as it is :)

  • Damn

What the hell, no Philthadelphia stops?? Screw Pittsburg.

    • Coonsan

      Yeah really, WTF.

where’s the fucking Philly date? this is an outrage. although might give me a reason to spend a weekend in NYC.

  • wha?

I recall Steve Harris complaining a few years ago that every time Maiden went to Denver, they would play the same outdoor suburban venue….. welcome back, Steve. Only the name of the venue has changed. Too bad no Red Rocks for Maiden.

    • Poopstain Patterson

Yeah, NFS! I hate Coors/Fiddlers/Comfort… sound sucks, seating sucks, 10:30 noise curfew, Why not 2 nights @ Red Rocks and shoot a DVD for cryin’ out loud! This is likely thier last tour, go out in style.

      Up The Irons, dammit!!

This’ll be my fifth time seeing Maiden, and my third at Madison Square Garden (saw ‘em there in ’04 with Dio and Motörhead opening, and saw ‘em there in ’08 the night the power went out mid-set). I also saw ‘em in ’03 when they played Hammerstein Ballroom for two of what was supposed to be five nights, and in ’05 on Ozzfest at PNC in Jersey. Maiden are the best live act in big-time metal (meaning there may be smaller, underground bands that deliver equally awesome shows, but when you get to arena scale, Maiden are the kings – better than Priest, better than Metallica).

  • FlyingDadBomb

Really hoping they’d stop at The Rock in Newark, but Holmdel it is!

  • Ziltoid

Well this should be a great show. I’ve never been able to see Maiden or DT whenever they’ve hit NY in recent years, so I’ll be there this time.

  • David

    Love Maiden…Can’t stand Dream Theater.

  • Coop

Well at least we didn’t have to see THIS guy’s dick.

    • Coop

Fuck! That was my response to the caption contest. Haha my browser is fucked up.

  • Heavy Metal

Damn you Army for moving me to a place where no metal bands tour. I lose out on Immortal and Iron Maiden in the same year.

  • I

    Cleveland here I come!!!

  • Chris

No Minnesota date? Damn, we rarely get good shows around here…

  • MetalStew

Chris, I’m right there with you.

Why can’t we get a Maiden date??? Hopefully they’ll add more if it is successful.

  • Adam

Whoever booked this tour is a fool. U2 are in Toronto the EXACT SAME NIGHT! Say what you want, I’m going to see U2.

I wonder if any other dates line up with their tour.

    • RenegadeDave

Your manliness card has been temporarily suspended.

    • Discipleofthewatch

What?! You’d rather see U2 than Iron Maiden? … something is not right with that sentiment.

  • timmah

Bahaha woe is me, no DT in Winnipeg. Oh well, more time for Maiden to play :D

  • Walker

If I were to start a Dream Theater collection, what are the must have albums?

    • http://www.twistedcritic.wordpress.com Chris

I’d start with Awake and Scenes From a Memory.

      • Austin

Yea those or Images & Words or the A Change of Seasons ep. People often criticise DT for pointless noodling, but those albums have quite cohesive song structures.

  • Sambo

This sucks! No Vegas dates. Well that was a give-in.

  • Austin

Have to see this show though. Last time I saw Maiden was for AMOLAD and DT would be a great show as always. Both progressive nation tours were great, but maybe this time they’ll just say fuck it and do A Change of Seasons. That’s the dream.

  • Gospel of Madness

Yay…two of my favorite bands touring and not a single date near were I live, I know Maiden are a bunch of geezers, but this tour is lethargic as fuck.

  • Mitchell

Just got my Toronto ticket booked. Yayyyy pre-sale! This is a tour-dream come true for me

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrew-Sterner/1335958279 Andrew Sterner

No stops in the southeast….at all. If the closest they’re coming to me is Texas….Fuck ‘em. They’ll be around again in a couple years.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Showalter/100000592087843 Anthony Showalter

Hope they come to San Diego, or at least Orange County on a different leg of the tour.
