VIDEO OF THIS PAST WEEKEND’S BYZANTINE REUNION MAKES ME EVEN MORE JEALOUS I COULDN’T ATTEND

How time flies. Seems like I was just writing about the return of Byzantine for 3 reunion shows in their home state of West Virginia, and here we are 4 months later and those shows have come and gone. According to our readers the reunion shows were as great as everyone anticipated they would be, allowing the band to finally play material from 2008′s incredible Oblivion Beckons live as well as songs from 2005′s …And They Shall Take Up Serpents and their first album The Fundamental Component. Suckalo DR4331 sent us videos he shot of the band tearing it up in Huntington, WV on Saturday night and promises more from last night’s Morgantown show.

Check out “Hatfield” from the first album below and “Nadir” from Oblivion Beckons after the jump. They sound tight as hell (despite a flub or two), especially considering the band only rehearsed once as a full unit in preparation for these shows. Really wish I could’ve gone down to witness at least one of these performances, as it’ll likely be the last chance I have to see material from Oblivion Beckons performed live… and I love that album so, so much. I love watching footage of reunion shows like this because the band — and the audience — are visibly SO PSYCHED.

The Morgantown show was amazing. They will be missed.

My neck is sore, I still can’t hear shit and I am exhausted but I was witness to one of the best live shows of my life last night in Morgantown. 123 was sold the fuck out and there was an anticipation in the air that was palpable. I told my buddy right before Byz took the stage that this place was about to explode. They ripped through a set that lasted almost 2 fucking hours. I managed to snag a set list and talked to OJ after wards. He looked exhausted but was kind enough to talk to everyone, take pictures and sign autographs. WV loves those guys. Hopefully, this isn’t the end but if it is, I won’t forget it.

I thought it was amesome when OJ stopped the show and refused to play another song until they let someone who had been tossed out, back in.

Fucking love these guys. Never seen them live, but OJ kind of reminds me a bit of Devin Townsend while playing. Hopefully they will go on to release additional material even if they are not able to tour behind it.

I live about 15 minutes from the venue they played at. I don’t particularly like Byzantine, but I’ll admit they have talent. But because of this band, the local metal scene here in WV is completely full of band attempting to sound just like them,. This may be the reason I don’t Byzantine, I don’t know.

They are beyond amazing. New England Metalfest 2006 was amazing, mostly because of their brief but brutal, beyond tight set.
