LISTEN TO THE NEW RWAKE SONG OR THE PUPPY GETS IT

The last time I wrote about the release of a new Rwake song, there were zero comments; the time before that, there were six comments, five of which were based around accusations that the band sounds like Baroness (which they don’t), and one of which claimed they sound like Primordial (a little more accurate but still come the fuck on). And I find what seems to be a lack of interest on the part of the MS community in Rest, Rwake’s first new album in four years, to be horribly, horribly depressing.

So lemme break it down real simple for you cats: Rest is one of the best albums of the year, and you need to go listen to the latest song from the record to be unveiled, “Was Only a Dream,” immediately.

    Thoroughly okay.  I bet if they cut it down to about a third of that ridiculous length it could be awesome, but as it stands the interesting moments are diluted and it barely seems worth listening to.  This is coming from a guy who regularly listens to “The Eye Of Every Storm,” too, so it’s not just hate for long compositions.

    Instrumentals sound like Baroness, so I concur with those comments…it’s just the vocals that turn me off

    I can’t get into this band.  I tried to listen to their last album that everyone came their pants for and it did absolutely nothing for me.  I got so bored.  I also listened to this new song and it was super okay.  Similar to “Tim”, I dig long songs(as well as mood droning mood music) as much as anyone.  So, what am I missing?  Why is this band good? I’d love to like them.  Shockingly, I enjoy liking music.

    These guys have been tearing up the local Arkansas scene since 96… they’ve been around quite a bit longer than Baroness. No comparison.

    And I’m a huge Baroness fan.

    But also, Rwake is an awesome band and their last album fucking ruled hard. So I’m excited for this one and I like what I’ve heard so far.

    I haven’t listened to much Rwake, but they’ve had art done for them by John Baizley in the past, ergo they sound like Baroness.

    I fucking love Rwake, and think they are waaaaaay under appreciated, but its so hard to get other people into them. I think they’re a bit of an acquired taste. Also does anyone think they sound like Mastadon? Like just a little.

      Maybe older Mastodon, but Mastodon were never that quite sludgy or atmospheric. It took me awhile to get into Rwake so it’s probably true about them being an acquired taste. First time I heard them it just sounded like a whole bunch of noise, but then again I hadn’t been into metal for that long at the time.

    this band could be so amazing if only the vocals weren’t such shit. Its depressing to think about. you couldn’t have worse vocals if you had stephen hawking singing for your band. absolutely atrocious. but the musicianship is incredible. such a damn shame. like so many other metal bands.
