Watch Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates Shred over Gypsy Jazz

Avenged Sevenfold probably aren’t your cup of tea, but this much is undeniable from your high n’ mighty No Fun Throne: their lead guitarist Synyster Gates can play the fuck out of the guitar (we didn’t rank him #23 on our list of the Top 25 Modern Metal Guitarists for nothin’).

No surprise, then, that Mr. Gates enjoys expanding his purview beyond metal. His most recent interest: gypsy jazz, a style with which MS readers might not be familiar but would surely recognize instantly. Gates recently conducted a “master class” for Guitar Center, and used one segment to rip out of the acoustic for some Django Reinhardt-style picking… with a twist. Check it out:
