Dimebag Listened to Living Colour, King’s X, and Blues Saraceno While Making Far Beyond Driven
To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven, Guitar World has released a never-before-published interview with Dimebag. There’s a lot of good intel in the interview and you should probably just go ahead and read the whole thing, but here’s the part which really made me smile: when asked what he’s been listening to as of late, Dime responded…
“I love Dogman by King’s X and Living Colour’s Stain. I’ve been listening to Blues Saraceno too, but most of the time you’ll catch me listening to my old records. I’m old-school, dude. I’m into the new stuff, but I still listen to fuckin’ Van Halen to this day, old Kiss, Judas Priest, Ozzy with Randy Rhoads.”
Pretty much every metal fan in the world loves all that old shit he listed… but the shout-outs to King’s X, Living Colour, and Blues Saraceno are just delightful. Our own love of Dogman, Stain, and Saraceno is well-documented, and it warms the cockles of my heart to know that Lil’ Axl and Lil’ Vince were listening to the same thing as Dime during this period.
Incidentally, this may or may not also help explain why Driven is my favorite Pantera album.
