Report: Guns N’ Roses to Hit the Studio After Slash’s Tour

0

The “will they?” or “won’t they?” debate concerning a new Guns N’ Roses album featuring the original core band of Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan rages on following the massive cash cow that was the band’s reunion tour. But a recent quote from rhythm guitarist Richard Fortus indicates that the band plans to hit the studio soon.

Fortus, who has been with Axl since 2002 and played on Chinese Democracy, told STL Today in an interview:

“Slash is on tour right now. Once he gets back from that, we’re gonna get some more recording done and hopefully get an album out soon. And then we’ll get back to touring.”

Fortus also said back in December that the band would put a new album out “very soon” and that “it will happen faster than you think.”

Slash is currently on tour in Europe, and has plans to hit Latin America this spring followed by European and North American shows over summer. That would place Guns N’ Roses in the studio in September at the earliest if Fortus’s timeline holds up, which would likely mean an album release no earlier than 2020. Plus, we all know that Axl is a notorious tinkerer when it comes to new music… although perhaps having Slash and Duff in the equation would balance him out a bit.

The “but will it be any good?” question is still always in play, but at least we now know the band intends on putting out new music. At the very least it’ll be quite the event and talking point for months on end.
