The Tracii Guns League of Gentlemen

Update, May 17, 2013: Whoops! Marc Ford has nothing to do with this band. The group’s bio on Reverb Nation is very confusingly worded. Take this quote with one giant [sic]:

“Doni Gray from Los Angeles CA has played with some heavy weight cats. Playing Drums for Burning Tree which also included ( Marc ” Muddy” Dutton who now plays for The Chris Robinson Brother Hood and Marc Ford who also played with Chris while a member of The Black Crowes.”

My apologies for my error. Original stories follows.

I was very excited to sit down and watch the video for “The Sound,” the debut single from The Tracii Guns League of Gentlemen, Tracii Guns’ first post-L.A. Guns, post-new-L.A. Guns project. Not because I thought it was going to be good — because I assumed it was going to be laughably horrible. My reasoning being that it’s been about a billion years since Guns was involved with anything decent, and The Tracii Guns League of Gentlemen has to be one of the worst band monikers in history.

While, I sit here before you with a mouth full of hat.

“The Sound” isn’t metal so much as it’s psychedelic-flavored hard rock, which may be, in part, why it succeeds; rather than try to recruit the next Vince Neil, Guns has enlisted vocalist Scott Foster Harris, who a) sounds really great, and b) writes lyrics that don’t make you wanna guffaw with embarrassment for the dude. He’s also surrounded himself with other talented musicians who specialize in this kinda music, like guitarist Marc Ford (ex-The Black Crowes) and drummer Doni Gray (ex-Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds). If the rest of the band’s first record — appropriately entitled The First Record — is this catchy, it’s gonna be a total winner.

Check out “The Sound” below. The First Record comes out June 21 on Shrapnel.
