Down, the supergroup featuring Phil Anselmo (ex-Pantera, Superjoint Ritual), Pepper Keenen (Corrosion of Conformity guitarist/vocalist), drummer Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod, Superjoint Ritual), bassist Rex Brown (ex-Pantera), and guitarist Kirk Windstein (Crowbar), performed a new song at their March 9th show at Seattle’s El Corazon. Chalk it up to too many years of drugs, too many years of booze, too many years of screaming for a living, old age, the live setting, the audio quality being shitty, or all of the above… but Phil Anselmo doesn’t sound great here. The same was true when Axl and I saw Down do a surprise performance at last summer’s Download Festival at Donington Park, UK. Nevertheless, I’m still pretty excited to hear what the new album, the band’s third, will sound like. For what it’s worth, the band sounds great in this clip, even despite the shitty audio. Enjoy.
