MIKE PORTNOY STILL HAS GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC

8190

Mike PortnoyRoadrunner Records recently published a bunch of Top Albums of 2007 lists from artists on the label. While many lists seem out of date or just plain crazy (let’s not even talk about Stephen King’s), Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy’s list proves not only that he is still very in touch with what is going on in metal today, but that he has good taste as well. Check this out:

01. BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME – Colors
02. MACHINE HEAD – The Blackening
03. PORCUPINE TREE – Fear of a Blank Planet
04. BEARDFISH – Sleeping in Traffic: Part One
05. THE DEAR HUNTER – Act II: The Meaning Of And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading
06. SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM – In Glorious Times
07. THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN – Ire Works
08. BLOTTED SCIENCE – The Machinations of Dementia
09. FOO FIGHTERS – Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
01. OCEANSIZE – Frames
11. SYMPHONY X – Paradise Lost
12. PAIN OF SALVATION – Scarsick
13. RIVERSIDE – Rapid Eye Movement
14. 3 – The End Is Begun
15. DOWN – Over The Under
16. BARONESS – The Red Album
17. OVERKILL – Immortalis
18. MEGADETH – United Abominations
19. RUSH – Snakes And Arrows
20. THOUGHT CHAMBER – Angular Perceptions

BTBAM, Dillinger, Baroness — how can you fuck with that? With most bands, the older the members get the more they lose touch with what’s going on in modern music. I really believe that Portnoy’s “with-it-ness” has a lot to do with Dream Theater remaining relevant 20 years after their inception.

Does anyone know anything about Beardfish, his #4 choice? Methinks I’m gonna go check them out right now.
