SLASH’S NEW SONG IS NOT INCREDIBLE

I was optimistic that since Slash’s new solo album, Apocalyptic Love, features only vocalist Myles Kennedy and not a plethora of annoying douche chills like Kid Rock and Fergie and Dude from Maroon 5, it might actually be kinda cool. But life is an ongoing learning experience, and today’s lesson is that optimism is for chumps.

Because LoudWire is now streaming “You’re a Lie,” the first single from Apocalyptic Love (the title, alas, is not a reference to South Park‘s claim that Slash isn’t real), and while it may not be the worst thing Slash has ever done, it’s certainly the most generic and slight. Sure, the guitar solo is fun, the way pretty every Slash guitar solo is fun, and Kennedy sounds good, because he is good. But I think I’ve heard this riff in no fewer than eighteen thousand other songs. It sounds like it a parody of an LA hard rock tune used in a sketch on Saturday Night Live.

Listen here if you’re having trouble falling asleep. Apocalyptic Love comes out May 22.
