NATE NEWTON FROM CONVERGE/OLD MAN GLOOM/DOOMRIDERS JOINS MAX CAVALERA/GREG PUCIATO PROJECT?

At some point after they collaborated on Soulfly’s “Rise of the Fallen,” word got out that Max Cavalera and The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato were working on a new project together. We never reported on it here at MetalSucks ’cause, uh, I have no idea.

But in a new interview with Loud magazine, Cavalera gives some info which pretty much guarantees we won’t be able to ignore this new supergroup any longer:

“Out of the blue, Greg had this idea that I should do a Nailbomb Part II with him, so it was his idea… We started jamming and it was cool, we wrote like 15 songs together and it turned out really cool. Then we got together with Dave (Elitch) from Mars Volta, the drummer, and we jammed in L.A. We got four songs done and I think we’re gonna get Nate (Newton) from Converge to play bass on the record, so that should come out later in the year.”

Holy poop on a stick, Cavalera AND Puciato AND Newton? That’s pretty incredible, no?

Of course, this could just be a studio project — all three musicians are so busy, it’s not unfathomable that we never get to see them all tour together. But it would be sweet if they did. Converge, Dillinger, Soulfly or Cavalera Conspiracy, and then finish the night with “Nailbomb Part II” or whatever it ends up being called? Every metal fan in the world would go see that tour.

We’ll give you more details as we get ’em. In the meantime, go here to read the rest of Max’s interview. He also discusses his upcoming autobiography, and tells a story about puking on Eddie Vedder — something I know I’ve wanted to do for years now.
