SUNDAY TO GET TEXAS TOASTED TO

SUNDAY TO GET TEXAS TOASTED TOAs we’ve been mentioning aplenty lately, this week Vince, Corey & myself (and surely many of y’all) will be braving the not-so-friendly skies to attend the booze-fueled shitstorm known as South by Southwest 2012. Amidst a maelstrom of whiskey, vomit, pizza, hot dogs, and beer, we are indeed planning to catch some music as well!  And despite not making it happen last year, both Vince & I are 1000% determined to traverse a half hour southwest of Austin to re-visit The Salt Lick in Driftwood for the juiciest, most succulent, best BBQ us damn Yankees Mets have ever had, although sadly we will have to make the mission separately with different pot cookie’d crews…  Another round of meat?

In addition to the unbelievably awesome lineup at the MetalSucks Official SXSW Showcase on Wednesday night, I for one am also super stoked about the ongoing, week-long, mostly local metal fest over at Hoek’s Death Metal Pizza on 6th Street.  Obviously this is a latenight destination of choice after you’ve unknowingly swilled back a roofie-spiked pint of beer whilst getting thrown out of the bar, but did you know that this no-bullshit pizza joint also has an awesomely intimate back patio with a stage where metal bands throw down & melt faces?

Put on by our friends at the Texas Metal Collective, this nonstop, always FREE party (if you’re 21+, otherwise it’s $10/day) promises a nonstop frenzy of amazing heaviness every day & night from Monday March 12th through Sunday the 18th that, aside from a scant handful of out-of-towners (including my band Family and our local Brooklyn bros in Tiger Flowers & Meek is Murder), primarily features a shit-ton of groups from all over the great state of Texas!  The list of bands represents Austin, Houston, Corpus Christi, El Paso, San Antonio, San Marcos, McAllen, Dallas, and MORE……not too shabby!  Let’s get toasted.

Full lineup here.  See you in the battlefield of rock, mofos….
