PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT IN MOURNING’S THE WEIGHT OF OCEANS FOR A REASON

Vince has written about Swedish melodic death-doomers In Mourning before, declaring them to be “the shit” and comparing them to Opeth, Insomnium, and Daylight Dies. I back those assertions wholeheartedly, and based on the plethora of e-mails we’ve gotten this week about the band’s new album, The Weight of Oceans, I’m guessing you folks do, too.

But in case ya still haven’t heard it and the mere mention of the above like-minded bands isn’t enough to get you on board, please allow me to further entice you: The Weight of Oceans is one of those albums that is both heavy and soothing, expansive and intimate, traditional and experimental. It’s catchy to the point where it works as background music or if you’re playing super-close attention to it. It’s so sad, but it makes me so happy. It actually mixes clean vocals with screaming in a way that isn’t irritating. Kind of a marvel, no?

You can stream the entirety of The Weight of Oceans here. It will be released in Europe on April 18 via Spinefarm; there’s no word yet on a North American release date, but, y’know. The internet tends to have a way of making such issues moot.

Meanwhile, I’m gonna start sacrificing goats to Satan in hopes of a U.S. tour.
