THE SEQUEL TO THE BEST MUSIC VIDEO YOU WILL EVER SEE, EVER

Last year, a devastatingly untalented band called Alternate Reality released a devastatingly bad music video, for a song called “The King That Never Was;” now they’ve released another video, for a tune called “Metal Coma,” and the press release announcing the clip’s debut actually boasts that “King” was “voted the No. 1 worst video of 2011 by Yahoo! Music, beating out such high-profile videos as Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday.’” And my immediate concern upon reading that was since the band is now embracing their awfulness, this new video might be too deliberately bad to be actually bad. It’s like the difference between, say, the hilarious terribleness of Battlefield Earth, which is funny in no small part because it takes itself serious, and the not-especially-hilarious terribleness of Snakes of a Plane, which actively attempted to be funny-bad. It’s always more amusing to see someone sincerely try and fail than to see someone take a dive.

And, alas, I was right — the “Metal Coma” video is trying too hard. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it is awful — but it would be so much more so if it weren’t clear that awful is what they were aiming for.

Watch and decide for yourself if this is still funny or not:
