Stray From the Path - Landmines

You might or might not recall — depending on how much ganj you were smoking at the time — that earlier this year NYHC crew Stray From the Path covered Rage Against the Machine’s “Vietnow.” I like this band, I like RATM, and I liked that cover, but many of you were quick to jump down my throat to dismiss the cover as one of any number of derogatory put-downs.

Well, if you didn’t like that Rage cover you’re probably not gonna like Stray From the Path’s new song “Landmines” either. It’s got RATM’s influence all over it — from the chunky riffs, to the pick scrapes, to the sound effects — which is probably why I like it so much. You don’t hear many bands name-check RATM as an influence these days, but SFTP wear that influence proudly on their collective sleeve and I absolutely love it. Stream:

“Landmines” is out now through Sumerian Records as a digital-only release, and it’s available via iTunes.
