David Lynch is Gonna Direct the New Nine Inch Nails Video

Where the fuck has David Lynch been? The legendary director of films such as EraserheadBlue Velvet, and Mulholland Dr. hasn’t made a feature since 2006’s typically-divisive Inland Empire; the only times I’ve seen his work in a movie theater since then are these super-awkward commercials for David Lynch Signature Cup Organic Coffee at the IFC Center. I don’t think Lynch’s work was always brilliant, but it was certainly always interesting, and we could use some interesting at the movies right about now, when one could easily splice together images from any five given trailers and easily pass them off as belonging to the same movie.

Luckily for us, one guy who loves interesting cinema is Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor. Reznor’s first foray into the world of film music was producing the soundtrack for Lynch’s 1997 mindfuck Lost Highway (which had the best newspaper ads in the history of movies), and now he’s hired Lynch to direct the new NIN video, for the title track to the forthcoming new album, Hesitation Marks.

The news was announced yesterday, which point Reznor sent out the below tweet:

Fingers crossed that this ends up being way cooler than when Darren Aronofsky directed a video for Loutallica. If nothing else, at least the song will be better.
