Necrophobic Vocalist Gets Eighteen Months in Jail for Domestic Abuse
Yesterday, Swedish death metallers Necrophobic released “Splendour Nigri Solis” (below), the first single from their new album, Womb of Lilithu; today, vocalist Tobias Sidegard celebrated by being sentenced to eighteen months in jail for beating his wife and children. So that’s one way to get publicity I guess.
According to Metal Insider, Sidegard’s wife, Linda, claims that the vocalist beat her and forced her to perform oral sex; he also used a bullwhip to go to town on his daughters, Tindra and Nova, with the former also alleging that Tobias used to lock her and her mother in their room while he slept. For his part, Tobias claims that he was under the influence of amphetamines when he used the bullwhip on his daughters, and was only joking. ‘Cause nothing says “humor” like whipping somebody. I’m surprised he didn’t also include “But I was REALLY sleepy and needed a quiet nap” as a defense against the allegations of locking these poor women in their room.
Here’s a photograph of Linda Sidegard with a swollen eye, which was used as evidence against Tobias…
…and here’s a photo of the bullwhip he oh-so-drolly used to beat his kids:
As of this writing, Necrophobic’s Womb of Lilithu is still scheduled for release on October 25 via Season of Mist. I have an awful feeling that Sidegard’s “plight” will actually help album sales, but I don’t know for sure. What I do know for sure is that if Tobias Sidegard has somehow still not been fired from Necrophobic by the time he’s released from prison, the band may have to change its name to Analrapephobic.
