Protest the Hero - Volition cover

If you tuned into the MetalSucks Podcast this week you heard “Without Prejudice,” a new song Protest the Hero released last week while Axl and I were yucking it up at Comic Con. We’ve also already heard “Clarity” and “Drumhead Trial,” meaning that “A Life Embossed,” the song they just released a few minutes ago, is the fourth track we’re hearing from Volition. And we likee! What’s not to like? Protest the Hero seem to have really focused on writing memorable and concise songs this time around, and they totally fucking nailed it.

Worth noting: holy crap, those low growls are as ball-rattling as any I’ve ever heard! Is that Rody Walker doing those? If so, kudos.

Worth wondering: remember how A Life Once Lost very publicly shared their distaste for crowd-funding a few months back? Axl just pointed out to me that given Protest the Hero’s highly successful Indiegogo effort for this album, perhaps this song’s title is a subtle dig at ALOL? I don’t think the song is about them — a press release says it’s about legislation passed in Ontario, Canada that discriminates against a specific breed of dog (and the video would seem to corroborate that) — but the song title… I mean, it seems possible, right? Protest are certainly known as a bunch of wiseguys.

Volition comes out on October 29th via Razor & Tie and can be pre-ordered here. Watch the lyric vid for “A Life Embossed” below.
