Black Tide: Still a Thing

Well, I’ll give this to Black Tide: they simply will not go the hell away. They lost two of the dudes who were on their last album and about a trillion people who actually cared when their then-label tried rrrrreeeeaaallllly hard to make them big back in 2008. But they’re still pushing that rock up the hill! In fact, their new single, “Not Afraid,” is an inspirational hymnal about just that. Their perseverance is admirable. Truly.

Alas, their music is not. It makes Bullet for My Valentine sound heavy, which wouldn’t be a bad thing if the song were good, but it sounds like any other mainstream rock radio anthem with a little screaming thrown in to make sure it’s still technically metal, I guess. And about those lyrics: they’re awful. It sounds like someone hit Jamey Jasta in the head with a lead pipe and then immediately made him start writing things down. “I’ve looked failure in the face”?Oh yeah? Me too! It looked a lot like this:

You shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but sometimes covers let you know exactly what’s gonna be inside the book. This is one of those times.

“Not Afraid” will appear on Black Tides new EP, Bite the Bullet, which comes out November 12.
