Video: Periphery Performs with Ex-Vocalist Chris Barretto in Manhattan

Periphery Icarus LivesSo we went to see Periphery the other night (and they seem to get better every time I see them, BTW), and before the show we were hanging out at the bar when I spotted the band’s former frontman, Chris Barretto. That didn’t seem so odd, given that Barretto’s split with the band was amicable, so I guess I shoulda seen this coming: for the encore, The ‘Riph brought Barretto up on stage to sing “Icarus Lives!” alongside current vocalist Spencer Sotelo (whose voice sounded really good despite having been ill with what he referred to as “chest AIDS”).

There’s always something really exciting and oddly heartwarming about when bands do this kind of thing (previous examples include Howard Jones and Jesse Leach sharing a stage and Greg Puciato trading screams with Dimitri Minakakis). So, needless to say, the performance was a lot of fun. And needless to say, someone filmed it on their cell phone, so now you can watch very shaky amateur footage of the mini-reunion!
