Ancient Ascendant - Echoes and Cinder

To paraphrase my good friend Saul: Ancient Ascendant‘s sophomore album, Echoes and Cinder, is like if Opeth met Enslave – and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, Lamb of God and Skeletonwitch met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and fucked – this would be the shit that they birthed.

Produced by the esteemed Dan Swanö, Echoes and Cinder is nefarious and groovy and catchy and, as its title suggests, burnt to a crisp, all at the same time. The band has two other releases — their 2011 debut, The Grim Awakening, and EP called Into the Dark — but I wasn’t familiar with them before the Cinder promo arrived in my inbox. I’ve been kinda obsessed with them ever since.

So I’m thrilled that I finally have an excuse to write about the album, in the form of the initial single, “Patterns of Bane.” It’s fucking KILLER, and it’s not even the best song on the album. Ass, prepare to be kicked:

Echoes and Cinder isn’t scheduled for release until March 24… although it would appear that it’s already available on Amazon.

Euros can see Ancient Ascendant live on tour starting later this week. Dates are here. Us ‘Mericans just have to keeping praying they make it across the pond.
