Unsigned and Unholy: Decembre Noir, Aphyxion, ICOSA

Aphyxion - Earth EntangledDecembre Noir are signed to FDA Rekotz, but on account of the relatively small size of that label I’m gonna give ’em a mulligan with regards to inclusion in this column. And because I like ’em, dammit. They kind of remind me of a slightly more black metallized, even more melancholic version of Insomnium, and we all know the massive amounts of love we have for that band so it’s no surprise we love these guys too. Here’s “Resurrection” from new album A Discouraged Believer:

Five seconds into Aphyxion‘s track “The New Breed” it’s obvious they’re from Denmark: Danish metal just has a certain GROOVE to it that’s instantly recognizable. Earth Entangled comes out on September 1st.

ICOSA are all over the map, but their eclecticism is bridged by a common theme of progginess throughout. Parts remind me of Dysrhythmia, parts remind me of The Ocean, parts remind me of Baroness, but the whole sounds like none of those. I’m at a loss for words, really, other than just “good.” Here’s their debut four-track EP The Skies Are Ours:
