Sumac Duo PicWe are mere weeks away from the release of The Deal, the heavily-anticipated debut album from Sumac, the new band featuring features Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom), Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) and Brian Cook (Russian Circles, ex-Botch, ex-These Arms Are Snakes). So — yay! — Rolling Stone has now debuted the band’s second single, “Blight’s Light Angel.” You can check it out below.

As Vince noted in December when the group released their first song, “Thorn in Lion’s Paw”

“Sumac sounds much like the sum of their parts, but there are no specific elements you can point to and say, for example, ‘that’s the Isis-like part,’ which is a good thing — Sumac are entirely their own beast.”

I think the same sentiment applies to “Angel” — the elephants-ploddingness of it is identifiable as being related to Old Man Gloom and Baptists, but it is definitely not Old Man Gloom or Baptists. Listen:

The Deal comes out on February 17 via Profound Lore and SIGE. The band also has some live dates coming up, which are as follows:

March 11 – Vancouver, BC @ Biltmore Cabaret
March 12 – Victoria, BC @ Logan’s Pub
March 13 – Portland, OR @ White Owl Social Club
March 14 – Bellingham, WA @ The Shakedown
March 15 – Seattle, WA @ Highline
