Barren Earth: Back and Melo-Doomier Than Ever with “On Lonely Towers”

Barren EarthWe’ve long been fans of Barren Earth, but it’s been a hot minute since we’ve had an excuse to write about them — the Finnish supergroup (of sorts) last released an album in 2012.

That barren streak comes to an end right now with “On Lonely Towers,” the title track from Barren Earth’s forthcoming third full-length, out March 30th via Century Media. The track delivers everything you want from this band and more — supremely doomy and soulful melancholy, an epic, demanding song structure (nearly 12 minutes!) and that [old] Opethian sense of composition throughout. New frontman Jón Aldará does a fantastic job on both the growls and cleans. I’m confident this album will rip it.
