“The Dire Womb of Winter” Doesn’t Sound Very Pro-Fetus, Profetus

Given the rampant anti-fetal sentiments that run through extreme metal, I was pleased to discover Finnish doom metal band Profetus via Cvlt Nation yesterday. Finally, after years of Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel and Butchered At Birth, we have a band who are promoting fetuses in metal!

But wait, this song isn’t pro-fetus at all! “The Dire Womb of Winter” — the name doesn’t help — sounds like the kind of music that would actually wither and desiccate fetuses (feti? It’s been so long since I’ve been snorkeling). Maybe it would be appropriate if the fetus was born of grave dirt and shadow and gestated inside an ancient book about God’s lover.

Check out the witchcraft-laden video for “The Dire Womb of Winter” below. Profetus’ latest, All Seasons Must Die, is out now on Svart Records.
