Graveyard - Innocence

Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to the new Shit That Comes Out Today, your satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up!

Vampire Cimmerian ShadeVampire
Cimmerian Shade EP (Century Media)
On a playlist with: Morbus Chron, Vorum, Zom
Listen “At Midnight I’ll Possess Your Corpse” (here)

Let’s take one big step back to understand how metal this track title is: “At Midnight I’ll Possess Your Corpse.” SPOILER ALERT: This shit is really, really thrashy and there is even a bonus thunderclap sample in the aforementioned track. A week ago, our Emperor Rhombus wrote: “Their [Vampire] upcoming EP, Cimmerian Shade, is a masterpiece of thrashing witchcraft.” And how!

·

Casablanca Miskatonic GraffitiCasablanca
Miskatonic Graffiti (Despotz)
On a playlist with: Ozzy Osbourne, Ziggy Stardust, really wild pants
Listen “My Shadow Out Of Time” (here)

You ever read something online and wonder if whoever wrote it is: 1) actually serious, or 2) actually actually serious. It’s knowing you’re being lied to and not caring vs. being lied to for real and not knowing. One, you enjoy. The other, you don’t. Ditto: new Casablanca album! Are these guys playing tribute to the sounds of yore, showing us how fresh they can still be? Or are they showing us how dated they are? We’ll never know!

Veiled Omniscient VeilVeiled
Omniscient Veil (Iron Bonehead)
On a playlist with: One Master, Bog Of The Infidel, Abyssal
Listen Omniscient Veil full stream (here)

Decent black metal isn’t hard to find — but really decent black metal is. There’s a wall most bands hit. Punching through it means capturing some kind of — *twirls fingers in the air annoyingly** — true essence or feeling or kvlt or whatever. Veiled (according to the band blurb: “VEILED was born from the demise of Gnosis of the Witch as a necessity to break away from the monotony of mundane expectation”) certainly has it. Main takeaway: Omniscient Veil is sinister.

·

Shrine of InsanabilisShrine Of Insanabilis
Disciples Of The Void (WTC)
On a playlist with: Misþyrming, Wovoka, Délétère
Listen Disciples Of The Void full stream (here)

A wise man once said that decent black metal isn’t hard to find. Disciples Of The Void is pretty decent, i.e. very decent. What’s interesting is that all nine tracks on this album could be twice (or thrice) as long, but perhaps then not so shibby. Shine Of Insanabilils took the smart road and kept things pithy. Brutal. Snappy. Sharp. Aggressive. Etcetera. And a big bonus: underneath the alligator skin, Disciples actually has a soft, passionate heart!

·

Sivyj YarSivyj Yar
Burial Shrouds (Avantgarde)
On a playlist with: Saor, Earth And Pillars, Panopticon
Listen Burial Shrouds full stream (here)

The hottest shit this week is an album from an unpronounceable band. Burial Shrouds checks the following boxes: well-paced, moody, a dab of rock ‘n’ roll, organic, vegan, and non-GMO. What sells, though, is the beautiful vocal performance! Shrieking cries and pained howls from across the cosmos = trippy experience all the way. Also the album art is a win.

·

Todesstoss HirngemeerTodesstoss
Hirngemeer (I, Voidhanger)
On a playlist with: ???
Listen Hirngemeer full stream (here)

The weirdest shit this week is… really weird. Imagine eating a blended mixture of White Castle and leftover Indian food, and then chasing it with a bottle of prune juice and whole milk. Three hours later, it’s gonna happen: that terrible, awful gurgle in your lower gut. You’ll reach the bathroom just in time to let it out one big Hirrrrrngeeeemeeeeerrrrrr.
