Everyone knows that Metallica’s Kirk Hammett is a famous horror hound, hosting his yearly Fear FestEvil (see what he did there?) at which he shows off his own massive collection of horror merch. What some of you might not know is that he also has his own line of guitar pedals, KHDK Electronics. And now it seems that he’s finally going to be able to bring the two together this October.

On Halloween, KHDK will be releasing the Ghoul Screamer, a Frankensteined new pedal whose purpose is described as “Kirk Hammett Overdrive.” The website’s promo for the Screamer says the following:

“Conceived in the dark depths of Kirk Hammett’s mind and forged in the secret laboratories of KHDK.”

Hammett, you are such a fucking nerd and I love you so goddamn much for it.

“The Ghoul Screamer is a multipurpose pedal, a true utility knife of overdrives. The dramatic versatility of the controls spans from a clean boost all the way to a massive overdrive. In addition to the three standard controls (drive, tone, volume) five switches have been added. This significantly enhances the sound palette and – together with carefully selected and tested parts – elevates the Ghoul Screamer to the highest class of stage and studio gear.”

Which sounds cool enough.

As an admitted gear luddite, a lot of this language is Greek salad to me, but what I do know is that Hammett often seems like the sanest member of Metallica, and his guitar tone rules. More so, as a horror nut and a Halloween worshipper, I’m really tickled by this pedal and its release date. Good on Kirk for living his dream.

Anyway, keep an eye on Gear Gods, where Max Frank will be able to tell you if the Ghoul Screamer is actually a good piece of gear. Me, I’m just here for the Dracula double feature.
