Rick Astley Never Wants to Give Up On AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell”

0

Here’s something fun to check out while you’re grinding out the rest of your Monday:

Everyone’s favorite ’80s pop star turned YouTube fad covered one of the most beloved songs in rock ‘n’ roll history: AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell”. The video is taken from a recent performance in West Hollywood, California during the US tour for his latest album, 50.

“Do you want to rock?” he jokes as he prepares to begin. “Yes, I know. Hearing me say that sounds a bit weird, but in an alternate universe this is what could be. We’re all allowed to dream, aren’t we?”

Astley manages to nail the cover pretty well, counting off the tune as he claps his sticks together. He seems to be right at home behind a drum kit, and it’s certainly better than watching him do the same awkward dance moves that he used back in the day. When the vocals come in it’s immediately apparent that his voice doesn’t have any of the bite of Brian Johnson’s, but he makes it work for the most part; it’s odd hearing the guy who wrote “Never Gonna Give You Up” sing this tune, but the crowd received it pretty well.

Video below, as always let us know what you think.
