No, that headline is not a cruel troll — Jason Becker is crowdfunding a new album. And, unfortunately, no, scientists have not discovered a miracle cure for ALS, the debilitating diseases with which Becker has been afflicted for nearly thirty years.

Gear Gods reports that Becker still “composes [new music] in what much be an agonizingly slow process using an alphabet system developed by his father where he moves his eyes to indicate certain letters,” and that the album will feature recordings of these compositions as played by a variety of all-star musicians. Confirmed participants include Joe Satriani, Jeff Loomis (Arch Enemy, ex-Nevermore), Chris Broderick (Act of Defiance, ex-Megadeth), Gus G. (Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne), Steve Morse, and Trevor Rabin (ex-Yes). Becker is currently attempting to raise $75,000 to record and release the album via Indiegogo.

This is such a fantastic idea, and, as Gear Gods puts it, “potentially a once-in-a-lifetime” event. Check out the video for the crowdfunding campaign below, then go here to contribute.
