Bill Bumgardner, Drummer for Lord Mantis and Indian, Dead at Age 35

Update, 2:55 p.m.: Ken Sorceron (Abigail Williams, The Faceless) says Bumgardner took his own life. That Facebook message is below (via Metal Injection):

Bill Bumgardner, drummer for both Lord Mantis and Indian, has passed away. He turned thirty-five just this past August. The cause of death has not been made public at this time.

Bumgardner’s passing was reported by Jeff Wilson (Abigail Williams, ex-Nachtmystium) in a private Facebook post, and has since been confirmed by Brooklyn Vegan.

Bumgardner remained the sole original member of Lord Mantis after the band went through a shake-up in 2015. At that point he recruited two members of Indian, his other band which had recently broken up.

Bumgardner was clearly a very talented dude who died far, far too young. Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.

Note: An earlier version of this post contained a screen shot of a private Facebook post by Jeff Wilson, which we have since taken down. We apologize to Jeff for insensitively sharing his personal message without asking.
