There is a Thriving Thrash Scene in China

Earlier today, our old buddy Emperor Rhombus alerted us to the existence of Tumorboy and their new album, Damaged System. The record should be of interest to you for two reasons: 1) it’s some kick-ass old school thrash, and ii) the band is from Beijing, China. Which is, y’know. Rare in our scene.

Intrigued, I decided to do some Googlin’ to see what else I could learn about Tumorboy. That lead to me learning about last year’s second annual Thrash China Festival, which was headlined by Onslaught, and also featured this band, Alcor, from Zhenjiang:

Through Alcor’s Facebook page, I then discovered that the band is also playing this year’s third Thrash China Festival on March 24. Other bands on the bill include Nanchang’s Explosicum

…and Choleraic, from Wuhan:

At this point, I’m ready to say that China definitely has a thriving thrash scene.

Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to track down the other bands book for this year’s Thrash China Fest. I don’t know if it’s because they haven’t recorded anything or just because their names aren’t very SEO-friendly:

  • Ancestor
  • Punisher
  • Toxic Waste

You’d think a fan would have tipped us off to these bands’ existence some time ago, but I checked my inbox to be sure, and nope, nuthin’.

ANYWAY, I definitely encourage you to check these bands out. Feel free to e-mail news AT metalsucks DOT net with details on any other great Chinese thrash bands of whom we ought to be aware.
