Video Premiere: Neck of the Woods, “You’ll Always Look the Same to Me”

The bands whose music is the most difficult to describe are often the ones that end up shattering the mold and breaking boundaries. Will Vancouver’s Neck of the Woods go on to become metal superstars? You never can tell, but we wouldn’t be exclusively premiering their new video “You’ll Always Look the Same to Me” if we didn’t see something special here.

The band calls themselves progressive metal, a vague descriptor in this day and age of sub-sub-sub-sub-genres, but when you hear this song you’ll understand why: their influences come from all over the prog metal spectrum (and beyond), and as such there really is no way to get any more specific. You’ll be tempted to compare them to Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Soilwork and even Every Time I Die… and then there’s the guitar solo, which some straight up, epic Zakk Wylde shit. And that’s just on this one track from an album of nine.

About their latest video, the band simply offers this: “The struggle does not become you, it only makes you stronger.”

Neck of the Woods’ forthcoming album The Passenger will see digital release via Basick Records and CD release through the band on September 15th. Check out Neck of the Woods on Facebook. Upcoming tour dates below the embed.
