It’s a new year, and you know what that means — it’s time for MetalSucks’ eighth annual new year preview, Albums That Will #$@&%*! Your Face Off! As with previous years, we won’t be spotlighting all the great releases coming out this year, but, rather, concentrating on lesser-known bands whose new releases might otherwise escape your attention. Look for these posts by assorted MetalSucks staffers throughout the week. We hope you enjoy ‘em!

AngelMaker are a six-piece melodic deathcore band hailing from Vancouver, B.C. and their music is some of the wildest shit you have ever fucking heard come out of Canada.

Their first release — a split with Isolations and Lament — made it immediately clear they have a strong grasp on the kind of sound they wanted to bring to the scene, and everything they’ve done since has been a development of that firmly held ideal. Dissentient, their debut album, is a fantastic realization of their skills; taking all of their influences to a new level, disseminating a black metal touch throughout, layering melody after melody amongst punishing breakdowns and pummeling riffs. Their 2016 split with A Night in Texas is somehow even more destructive, vacuum-sealing a wild beast inside of cage that wasn’t built to hold it, taking everything AngelMaker developed on Dissentient and pumping it with 10,000 CCs of pure adrenaline. AngelMaker are fucking crazy, and at this point they can only get better.

So, naturally, I’m as excited as I could possible be for their next album. I still listen to Dissentient in its entirely at least twice a day (I’m actually on my second playthrough already, and as I write this, it’s eight in the goddamn morning!); every song on this album is incredible. I feel like I’m floating in space whenever I listen to “E.L.E.,” and the first two tracks, “Godless” and “No Haven,” go so fucking hard that I can’t help but go completely nuts whenever I listen to them.

There isn’t a lot of information available about the new album aside from the fact that it will be out in 2018, two tours are planned, and IT HAS FUCKING SLAMS. Because of the lack of concrete information, it’s impossible to know what AngelMaker will be doing with this record, but with a change in their logo to something more along the lines of Acrania and other slam bands, it could be quite different from their previous work. I’m certain of a few things, however: that black metal influence ain’t goin’ away, those breakdowns are only going to get more aggressive, the vocals are going to chew your face off like they always do, the music is going to become less and less predictable, and the slams are going to completely fucking crush your ears. I’m erect just thinking about it, and as soon as the new album drops, I am going to masturbate to it until my dick bleeds. I’m fucking ready.

Now take a listen to this, because as the band says themselves, “This shit’s fucking crazy:”
