People Are Upset About Steel Panther’s ‘Pussy Melter’ Guitar Effect, and Steel Panther Are Fine with That

0

Apparently, Danish electronics company TC Electronic got called out by female musicians over the release of a new guitar pedal effect sponsored by Satchel, guitarist of novelty sleaze merchants Steel Panther. Why? Because the pedal effect was called the “Pussy Melter.”

Here’s one such complaint from the Canadian band Braids:

As you can see, TC Electronic’s description of the effect is, well… vivid. So I can understand why people are upset.

But the members of Steel Panther have responded in keeping with their central themes: by taking the piss.

Heh. Those are pretty funny responses.

Look, as a hardcore liberal, I get it–calling something the “Pussy Melter” is gross and sophomoric, and at the end of the day, these musicians are calling out the electronics company that they think shouldn’t stoop to such levels. Makes sense.

Buuut this is one I gotta shrug about. Sure, the joke is gross, but it’s not hurting anyone, and anyway this is Steel Panther we’re talking about. That’s their whole shtick. Do you go to England and complain about rain? I doubt anyone’s going to see the name of that guitar effect and think, “WOMAN ARE OBJECTS!” They’re just going to say either, “Party” or, “Gross” and get on with their lives.

Anyway, we’ll see if the Butthole Burner garners the same amount of controversy. Maybe with a name like that, Steel Panther can get sponsorship from Taco Bell.
