Author & Punisher’s New Song/Video “Nihil Strength” is Fucking Sick

Author & Punisher’s New Song/Video “Nihil Strength” is Fucking SickThis new Author & Punisher video is AWESOME. I watched the entire thing, riveted the whole time — I rarely do that, usually clicking away to some other tab or task while I leave the audio running in the background. The song is fucking dynamite too!

To the best of my knowledge, this is the most up close and personal we’ve got with Tristan Shone’s rig, which has been re-tooled for his new album. Sure, we’ve seen it before, but not like this! We can see the way he uses the mechanism connected to his right arm for the bass drum and snare hits, the full design of his microphone, some of the other doo-dads he uses to make sounds… it’s cool as hell, like an episode of How It’s Made for metal. And on top of that, the glitchy, computerized post-production effects on this video are PERFECT.

On top of THAT, “Nihil Strength” is really, really catchy, the most so of any Author & Punisher track released to date. I’m calling it now: Beastland, A&P’s forthcoming new album, is gonna be a breakout that elevates him to new heights. Dovetailing with that industrial revival I’ve been predicting for some time now, of course. Here’s what Shone offered on the new record:

“I built new machines for this album to make more aggressive and dynamic music. These devices are compact and powerful, made from robotic components, intended for high energy repetition. I, as do many others, feel rage against the Beasts of our era: those who horde, who poison, or who discriminate. We need aggressive music to make an aggressive statement. Beastland is an introspection of who we are as a human race.  At a time when we have the tools, the intellect, and the history to remind us how to treat each other and the earth, we go far out of our way to feast on the less fortunate and vulnerable, disregarding the atrocities and lessons of the past.”
