New King’s X Record Coming in 2019

0

We’re not big on “band announces new record coming in [time frame]” posts around here unless there’s new music to listen to along with it (unless it’s, like, Metallica or something) because it’s such a tease, but desperate times call for desperate measures: it has been TEN years since King’s X last released a new album! By the time a new one comes out it will have been at least 11.

I know what you’re thinking: “Who fucking cares, Vince?” To some degree that’s a solid point, because King’s X definitely aren’t “in the zeitgeist” of metal right now, or whatever you might say. But I’ll tell you this: I care, a whole lot, and I know a dedicated group of folks out there do, too. King’s X have a very loyal fanbase, and I saw it in person at the band’s fantastic NYC show a few weeks back — the place was packed, the forces were out! It was some of the most fun I had at any show all year.

So: Golden Robot Records has inked King’s X to a new deal, and the label and band both promise a new record in 2019. Here are some quotes from Doug Pinnick, Ty Tabor, Jerry Gaskill (Jerry! Jerry!) and Golden Robot founder Mark Alexander-Erber:

“‘I’m really excited to release the next King’s X album with Mark, Derek and the crew at Golden Robot! May the groove be with us all,’ says vocalist/bassist dUg Pinnick. Guitarist Ty Tabor adds, ‘I’m looking forward to working with Golden Robot Records!’

“Drummer Jerry Gaskill adds, ‘It’s been a while since we’ve made a record. During that time, I’ve been thinking, when and if we make a new record, I want it to be the best we can do. I want to believe in it. I want to make it great, whatever it takes. I don’t want to just make another KING’S X record. I think and hope that we are in that place. I think and hope its time and I feel good about the team we’ll be working with at Golden Robot Records. I’m going do my best. Let’s do this thing.’

“‘When we started to talk to King’s X about signing with Golden Robot in the U.S. and we met dUg in LA a few times, I knew 100% that we would end up working with them. I’m loving the fact they are still the original members and I really believe this new album will be there best yet! It’s incredible how many people inside the industry – and I’m talking about very well-known musicians – love these guys and can’t wait for a new album. We are all very excited indeed,’ says Mark Alexander-Erber, Group Founder and President.

Still a ways off, but it’s something to look forward to in 2019. I’m not sure what to expect from King’s X at this point, but we shall see. Meanwhile, here’s “Pray” from the band’s 2008 release XV:
