Unique Leader Records Founder / Deeds of Flesh Guitarist Erik Lindmark Has Passed Away
Update, November 30th, 9:57am EST: Unique Leader Records has issued a statement regarding Lindmark’s passing. You can read that below. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for Erik’s five-year-old daughter Bella; donate here.
“ERIK RAYMOND LINDMARK
“It is with great sadness that we must announce that our CEO & Founder, Erik Lindmark, passed away today after battling with Sclerosis.
“The indelible mark he has left on the Death Metal genre is monumental, both as a business man and as a musician. After building this label from scratch with his Deedsbandmates, Erik took Unique Leader to a level he had never expected it, or the genre, to get to.
“During his time in Hospital, Erik was absolutely implicit with his instructions to staff to go full steam ahead with the label in his absence- which is exactly what we intend to do.
“That being said, we will not be releasing anything in January so that we can make the necessary adjustments and delegations within the company. We would like to thank you all for your well wishes, support and kindness toward Erik on socials and via private correspondence.
“There is a gofundme setup for Erik‘s daughter Bella (5) and his wife- link below.
“Rest in peace Erik. You were a true warrior.”
MetalSucks has just learned of the passing of Unique Leader Records founder and mastermind Erik Lindmark. We are unaware of the cause of death, but we know he had been ill for some time. Erik was also in the band Deeds of Flesh and was just 46 years old.
Erik founded Unique Leader in 1997. The label’s rise was slow and gradual, but the past five or so years have seen it turn into a veritable death metal powerhouse under his leadership and vision. Unique Leader has put out albums by Aeon, Decrepit Birth, Fallujah, Gorod, Psyrcoptic, Rings of Saturn, Soreption, Spawn of Possession, Arkaik, Alterbeast, Dyscarnate, Ingested, Internal Bleeding, Pyrexia, The Zenith Passage and dozens more. Erik was a founding member of Deeds of Flesh playing on all eight of their full-lengths and one EP.
News of Lindmark’s death started circulating just moments ago via social media. Fallujah offered their condolences in a Facebook post:
“We just learned of the passing of Unique Leader Records founder Erik Lindmark. He took a chance on Fallujah when we were still in school working on what would become The Harvest Wombs. We, and the west coast Death metal scene along with a lot of other bands you all know and love owe a lot of their early careers to Erik and Unique Leader. Our condolences to his family and friends.”
On behalf of everyone at MetalSucks, we wish Erik’s family, friends and everyone in the Unique Leader and Deeds of Flesh orbits all the best during this painful time.
