Machine Head are in the Studio

0

Machine Head are in the recording studio.

What exactly they’re doing there isn’t clear — laying down demos? recording a proper new album? just one song for a special release? — but we know they’re in the studio doing something thanks to a brief video post by Robb Flynn.

Also unclear is exactly who “Machine Head” is at this point. Longtime members Phil Demmel and Dave McClain left the band after one final tour together last fall, with Demmel going on to pull emergency fill-in duty for Gary Holt in Slayer and reuniting with Vio-Lence while McClain joined back up with Sacred Reich. Bassist Jared MacEachern is still in the fold, and he makes an appearance in Flynn’s new video too, but beyond that we don’t know anything about the status of the second guitar and drum spots in the band. Presumably Flynn is in the process of figuring it all out but didn’t want to halt any forward progress on new music to do so.

You can check out the clip below. It’s waaaaay too early to start speculating on release dates for a new Machine Head album, but I think it’s a safe bet to say we’re unlikely to hear any new music from the band until 2020 at the earliest (the band’s last album, Catharsis, came out only a little over one year ago).
