Listen to Saint Vitus’s New Song “12 Years in the Tomb”

Doom legends Saint Vitus have returned, although not in the form you might expect. Infamous vocalist Scott “Wino” Weinrich is out and original singer Scott Reagers is back in, his first recorded appearance with the band since Die Healing (1995). Original bass player Mark Adams has also left the group due to his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s Disease, with Pat Bruders (Down, ex-Crowbar, ex-Goatwhore) taking his place.

How do those two lineup changes affect the band’s sound? You can be the judge of that on their new single “12 Years in the Womb,” released today. Reagers’ voice has a distinctly classic metal, operatic feel in contrast with Weinrich’s, more King Diamond to Wino’s Ozzy but with a bit of Tom G. Warrior grit. Fittingly, the music is somewhat in that vein as well, a bit more on the trad metal side than doom, but still full of plenty of stoner-ridden dirt.
