The Obsessed Announce New Album, Gilded Sorrow

0

According to a Facebook post from the band, doom metal legends The Obsessed will release their fifth album, titled Gilded Sorrow, on February 16, 2024 via Ripple Music.

Ripple says:

Expanded to a 4-piece with the addition of Jason Taylor as second guitarist, their music is more aggressive and downright mean than ever before.

Guitarist/singer Scott “Wino” Weinrich says:

“I think it’s the heaviest thing I’ve ever done. Heavy in a sense as not just sludge heavy, but well-rounded. And it sounds fantastic. Everything I do with (producer) Frank Marchand gets better and better. He knows what the fuck he’s doing.”

In an earlier interview, Wino told TotalRock that the new album would feature some of the heaviest music of the band’s career, the same sentiment as the official announcement.

“I think it’s the heaviest thing I’ve ever done. I mean, heavy in a sense as not just sludge heavy, but I think it’s well-rounded. I would say I think it’s the best thing I’ve done. I like to be able to say that it’s the best thing I’ve ever done because I want everything that I do to be as good or better. Every time I do a record, I set the bar. ‘The Church Within’ set the bar for ‘Sacred’. ‘Sacred’ set the bar for ‘Gilded Sorrow’. We did it with Frank Marchand in Maryland.”

In addition to new guitarist Taylor, Gilded Sorrow is also The Obsessed’s first album with bassist Chris Angleberger. Drummer Brian Costantino played on last album Sacred. Pre-orders are available now.
