Niclas Engelin Isn’t Returning to In Flames Any Time Soon

With Niclas Engelin sitting out In Flames recent North American tour under “strong medical advisement,” fans may have been expecting to see the guitarist return to the road with the band this summer.

Unfortunately it seems that won’t be the case, as In Flames have issued a statement saying Chris Broderick (Act of Defiance, ex-Nevermore, ex-Megadeth) will continue filling in through the summer:

“To all of the Jesterheads coming out to our upcoming European and UK dates: Niclaswill be extending his hiatus though out the Summer to focus on personal matters. Your support has meant a great deal to both Niclas and Chris Broderick, who will remain on the road for the time being.

“We can’t wait to see you soon.”

With all respect due to Mr. Engelin, who is a phenomenal player — I’m a longtime fan of his own band, Engel, too — I’m not sure the extent to which In Flames fans are all that invested in who’s in the band aside from Anders Fridén and Björn Gelotte. I could be wrong, though! And in either case I certainly wish Engelin all the best in whatever he’s dealing with.
