Listen to Gaahl’s Pride Playlist

This weekend, LGBT Pride Month will conclude in the most LGBT Pride way imaginable: with a massive worldwide party. Although pre-gaming for the big event will surely begin any second now, the main event comes Sunday, when there will be Pride parades all over the world. On top of that, the fact that this year is the fiftieth anniversary of Stonewall riots makes the whole affair extra worthy of, well, pride.

Need a soundtrack for your celebration? Look no further than this new Pride playlist that Gaahl himself curated for Apple Music:

“Gaahl is a Norwegian artist and vocalist-frontman for the Norwegian black metal troupes Gorgoroth and Gaahls Wyrd. He’s also one of the few out gay musicians in black metal. Gaahl is a man of few words, so when we got his custom-made playlist for Pride, it didn’t surprise us that he included only one brief line of description to accompany his tracklist, which leans heavily on hard rock but also makes detours into new wave, electro-pop, and even disco. Says Gaahl, simply, ‘Pride means freedom.’”

“Pride means freedom” is a beautiful sentiment, and this is an absolutely killer playlist. Like the description says, it’s gots all kinds of stuff on it — gay musicians, straight musicians, metal, non-metal… in fact, there’s really only a handful of metal-friendly artists on it: Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Halford, Motörhead, Thin Lizzy, and the Scorpions. But everything here is good. And besides, who isn’t curious about what Gaahl listens to in his free time?
