Deftones’ Chino Moreno to Cover Christian Death’s “Cavity – First Communion” with Death Valley High

Death Valley High might sound like a young adult vampire/desert survival show (which could be pretty sweet, now that I think about it), but it’s actually a “death disco” project for fans of Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. The first half of their upcoming record Duel features cover songs, while the second is a collection of intense, danceable remixes. Each song on the album features a special guest, including Chino Moreno of Deftones covering Christian Death’s “Cavity – First Communion.”

“‘Duel’ is our equivalent to the modern age mixtape; it severs the rules of a conventional release,” comments the band. “The special part is, that for every song in this compilation, we assigned a specific ‘adversary.’ The whole idea was to go up against [both] our collaborators’ and our own comfort zones. We wanted to prove that doubling down on the friction would spark fires.”

While there aren’t any tracks available to steam yet, I think these re-interpretations of beloved songs could shape up to be super cool. I love sad shit, and I love goth-y dance shit, so I’ll be looking forward to the August 23 release date. In the mean time, you can check out Dual’s teaser trailer below, as well as Chino Moreno’s version of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer” from Death Valley High’s last record.
