Ric Ocasek, the driving creative force, guitarist and singer of influential ’70s and ’80s new wave band The Cars, was found dead yesterday in his Manhattan home at 75 years old. While The Cars certainly weren’t a metal band, they were a huge influence on a number of prominent metal musicians, so we’ve collected several metal covers of songs by The Cars from over the years, including rendition by Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, Byzantine, Fu Manchu, Powerman 5000 and others. Listen below as you remember and celebrate Ocasek’s legacy.
