Watch Layne Staley’s Mom Sing Her Son’s Song Live

0

Back in August of 2018, a Layne Staley tribute show took place at The Showbox in Seattle, the proceeds of which went towards the Layne Staley Memorial Fund, a non-profit devoted to helping musicians with substance abuse issues. Alice in Chains tribute band Jar of Flies were the main act, but Layne’s mom, Nancy, got up on stage solo to sing “Wake Up,” the opening cut from Mad Season’s 1995 release Above, and it was quite the show stopper.

For some reason footage of that performance is just now making the rounds despite it having been online for over a year, but the internet is funky that way, and there’s never a bad time to remember Layne’s legacy and shine a light on the fund founded in his honor. Have a look at Nancy’s performance below, which features her harmonizing live to her son’s recorded vocals. Powerful and moving. R.I.P. Layne, always and forever. <3
