Exclusive Track Premiere: “Sur Jupiter” by Grant the Sun (Meshuggah)

Say… anyone out there dig progressive groove? Oh yeah? How about progressive groove so deep it will swallow your entire record needle whole? That sound appealing? Oh, it does, you say? Well… great! Then you definitely need to have Grant the Sun on your radar!

The instrumental trio, which was formed by members of Insense and Beaten to Death, will release a absolutely stunning new EP, Sur Jupiter, next month, which features Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal on bass. MetalSucks is beyond thrilled to be offering a taste of that EP today in the form of the title track. The Meshuggah connection will be readily apparent in the song’s galloping, mathematical, strobe-light riffage. But it’s generally more melodic that the Swedish legends, and is just as sure to appeal to fans of Devin Townsend and Extol as it is lovers of Thordendal’s day job. Also, did we mention the GROOVE on this mutha? Because this song has GROOVE, kids. The Grand Canyon ain’t got nuthin’ on “Sur Jupiter.”

Do yourself a favor and check out “Sur Jupiter” the song below. Sur Jupiter the EP comes out December 20 on Mas-Kina Recordings.
