Lamb of God’s Mark Morton Comments on Kerry King Forgetting How to Play a Slayer Song Live

0

A video made the rounds last week of Slayer guitarist Kerry King struggling to play the intro to the song “When the Stillness Comes” at the band’s New York City performance, flubbing the notes and starting over four times before finally giving up and instructing the rest of the band to skip the intro altogether. No one faulted the guy for it — any musician will tell you they’ve been there, too, suddenly forgetting how to play something that’s usually second nature — and King seemed to laugh it off live, although he’s yet to mention it publicly.

Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton caught wind of the video and shared his sympathies with King in a quick post to Twitter, explaining:

“Seeing the footage going around of Kerry King repeatedly messing up the intro to a song while on stage. I feel for him in that moment. Ive been there so many times. Its the weirdest thing, you’ve played the song 1000x & for whatever reason one night you blank. He handled it well!”

I feel that. I mean, shit, I occasionally look down mid-day only to realize I’ve put my underwear on backwards, and other times I zone out and miss my subway stop or even get on the wrong train. The human brain is a weird place to be!

Watch the video again below for a good chuckle starting around the 15:00 mark. Remaining dates of Slayer’s final tour ever (there’s still time to snag tickets!):
