These Comedians are Following Tool Around on Tour
In a recent article for Esquire in which he pleaded with Tool not to release their new album (he later admitted he was wrong), comedian Nick Youssef says that “if someone were to elevator pitch me to a stranger it would go like this:”
“Nick is a comedian; has been his whole adult life. He has a weird obsession with coffee and a crazy-weird obsession with that band Tool. Yeah, the band that sang that ‘Sober’ song in the ‘90s. I didn’t know they were around anymore either. He constantly tells me to listen to their albums, but they were only available on CDs until this week. Anyway, if I hear from Nick I’ll give you a call officer.”
Now Nick, together with fellow comedians Rory Scovel and Freddy Scott, is taking his Tool fandom to the next level and mixing it with his work as a funnyman: he’s going to follow the band around on their upcoming tour and perform comedy sets in every city Tool plays. So as not to compromise his fandom, Nick has cleverly booked his own shows either the night before or the night after Tool’s, meaning he’ll get to see his favorite band live (a total of ten times if he wants!) AND write off the ticket price as a business expense. The tour follow’s Tool routing in every city except Nashville and New Orleans, but there’s no saying Nick won’t go to those shows too.
Wonder where Scovel and Scott are on all of this? Are they, too, Tool superfans? Casual fans? No interest at all, just in it for the gig?
