Filter Send “Thoughts and Prayers” to School Shooting Victims

Filter frontman/onlyman Richard Patrick has not been shy about his politics over the years, and the band’s new song, “Thoughts and Prayers,” is no exception, taking aim at the hollow promises from politicians following school shooting after school shooting in America.

Musically, the song is built around a heavy riff that’ll call to mind some of the band’s most visceral material on The Amalgamut and Short Bus. Speaking of the latter, Patrick was due to reunite with guitarist Brian Liesegang from that record for the next Filter effort, but that collaboration fell apart when the platform they’d used to crowdfund the effort, PledgeMusic, began experiencing financial problems.

No word yet on whether “Thoughts and Prayers” will appear on a new Filter album, but we’ll update this post if we hear anything.
